LFC More Likely to Sign Mount than New Chelsea Deal

Liverpool remain a key target for Mason Mount heading into the summer, and he is currently “more likely” to join the Reds than sign a new deal at Chelsea. The Reds have already done most of their transfer groundwork, and Jurgen Klopp has already outlined his priorities to Fenway Sports Group. One of those priorities is Mount, with Liverpool planning to bring in three midfielders this summer. Reports of Liverpool’s interest in Mount first surfaced in November, and have been corroborated by journalists from both Merseyside and London. Mount’s current contract expires in 2024, and if he does not extend it, he will be sold this summer. However, the offers from Chelsea have not met his expectations. According to football.london’s Chelsea writer Bobby Vincent, Mount is “more likely” to join Liverpool. There have been no developments in talks between Mount and Chelsea, and the London club’s reported price tag of £70 million would not represent value to Liverpool. However, if Mount seeks an exit, a deal could be struck for considerably less. Mount made 35 appearances for Chelsea this season, scoring three goals and assisting six, but only played the full 90 minutes on 10 occasions. He underwent surgery on his pubic bone in April, but is expected to be fit for pre-season.
