Liverpool FC Faces Left-Back Dilemma with Kostas Tsimikas Injury: Could Owen Beck Be the Solution?
Liverpool FC has been hit with another injury blow as Kostas Tsimikas joins Andy Robertson on the long-term absentee list with a broken collarbone. With Tsimikas expected to be out for at least six weeks, Liverpool may need to recall loanee Owen Beck to provide cover.
Tsimikas suffered the injury during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal and was immediately taken to the hospital. Jurgen Klopp confirmed the extent of the injury in his post-match press conference. This injury comes at a bad time as Robertson is still recovering from shoulder surgery and is not yet able to rejoin contact training.
Joe Gomez is expected to fill in as the first-choice left-back, with young players Luke Chambers and Calum Scanlon as backup options. However, Liverpool may need to consider other alternatives during this period without both Robertson and Tsimikas.
According to the Courier, there is a clause in Liverpool’s agreement with Dundee that allows them to recall Wales left-back Owen Beck in January. Manager Tony Docherty has stated that talks are ongoing and both parties are happy with the situation. However, Tsimikas’ injury could complicate matters, as Liverpool’s priority is to ensure adequate cover for themselves.
Beck is currently nursing a groin injury but played the full 90 minutes in Dundee’s last match and was expected to be involved in their upcoming game. Docherty believes that Beck’s situation can be managed, but they may need to limit his training load to prevent further injuries.
Beck has been a regular starter for Dundee this season, featuring in almost every game and playing the full 90 minutes in each appearance. While Liverpool may initially view his development as best served out on loan, the injuries to Robertson and Tsimikas could force them to recall him.
Liverpool will need to carefully consider their options and make a decision on whether to recall Beck or explore other alternatives. The priority is to ensure they have adequate cover in the left-back position during this challenging period.
