LFC Internationals: Konate’s Return and Elliott’s Assists in 3 Score Match
Liverpool had a busy final day of the international break, with several first-team players showcasing their skills on the international stage. Despite a successful break overall, there was a setback for the Reds as Andy Robertson suffered an ankle injury.
Robertson, who played for Scotland against Northern Ireland, was forced off after just 37 minutes. The match ended in a 1-0 loss for Scotland, with Conor Bradley scoring the winner for Northern Ireland. Robertson’s injury is a cause for concern, and he will undergo a scan upon his return to Merseyside.
While Robertson’s injury dampened the mood, there were still plenty of positives for Liverpool during the international break. Dominik Szoboszlai continued his impressive form, scoring for Hungary in their 2-0 victory over Kosovo. Szoboszlai has now captained Hungary in 14 games without a defeat, an impressive record. Only Luis Diaz’s Colombia has a longer unbeaten run in international football.
Joe Gomez made his second substitute appearance for England during the break, playing 80 minutes in a 2-2 draw with Belgium. Virgil van Dijk also had a busy break, playing 90 minutes for the Netherlands in their 2-1 loss to Germany. Another center-back, Ibrahima Konate, made his return from injury and played the full 90 minutes in France’s 3-2 win over Chile.
At youth level, Harvey Elliott once again proved his talent by providing two assists in England U21’s 7-0 thrashing of Luxembourg. Elliott’s performance showcased his ability and hinted at his potential to outgrow the U21 level. Jarell Quansah also had a standout performance, playing the full 90 minutes and helping keep a clean sheet.
In other matches, Kaide Gordon and Luke Chambers both started for England U20s in their 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic. Bobby Clark missed out on the game, while Tyler Morton was unused.
Overall, Liverpool’s players had a productive international break, with impressive performances and positive results. However, the injury to Andy Robertson is a concern for the Reds as they look ahead to their upcoming matches. Despite this setback, the squad has shown its depth and resilience, and fans can remain optimistic for the remainder of the season.
