Liverpool Recalls Marcelo Pitaluga from Loan to Join St Patrick’s Athletic
Liverpool has been recalling players from loan deals recently, and their latest move sees goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga follow in the footsteps of another Liverpool goalkeeper. The Reds have had mixed success with their loan moves this season, with four players being recalled early. However, they are hopeful that Pitaluga’s loan to St Patrick’s Athletic will prove to be a success.
Pitaluga has been training with the first team, working alongside his compatriot Alisson and coaches John Achterberg, Jack Robinson, and Claudio Taffarel. Although he has featured in matchday squads for Jurgen Klopp on seven occasions, the hope is that he will now have a more prominent role on the pitch during his time at St Patrick’s Athletic.
This loan to St Patrick’s Athletic is the second of Pitaluga’s young career, having previously spent time with eighth-tier club Macclesfield in the 2022/23 season. The young Brazilian is following in the footsteps of fellow Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros, who had a successful loan spell with the Irish side in 2021, winning the FAI Cup. Liverpool will be hoping for similar results from Pitaluga.
St Patrick’s Athletic’s league season will begin in February, but they are currently involved in the Leinster Senior Cup this month. This could provide Pitaluga with an early opportunity to make an impression. However, it is unclear whether the loan agreement runs until the end of Liverpool’s season in May or St Patrick’s Athletic’s season in November.
If Pitaluga stays with St Patrick’s Athletic until the end of their season, he will miss out on pre-season with Liverpool. However, consistent game time could be more beneficial for his development. Pitaluga expressed his excitement about joining St Patrick’s Athletic, stating that it feels amazing and that he can’t wait for the upcoming season.
Before making his second loan move, Pitaluga signed a new deal with Liverpool, indicating the club’s belief in his potential.
