Anfield Road Stand at Reduced Capacity Raises Concerns for Liverpool
Introduction
The new Anfield Road Stand is currently operating at a reduced capacity, but persistent standing among fans has raised concerns within the club. Ahead of Newcastle’s visit, supporters have been sent a message regarding this issue.
Increase in Attendance
Initially, only the lower tier of the new stand was open, but the last three home games have seen an additional 7,000 fans seated in the upper tier. This has resulted in a monumental step for Anfield, with over 57,000 fans now in attendance.
Concerns about Standing
Despite the increase in capacity, there have been multiple messages from the club regarding fans standing during matches. Only sections of the Kop and the lower Anfield Road are designated safe standing zones. According to the Echo, there are concerns from inside the club that persistent standing may force Anfield to operate at a reduced capacity.
Safety Risks and Sanctions
The club has taken measures to address this issue, including placing flyers in seats in the upper tier and sending emails to supporters with tickets. Standing in areas not designated for safe standing poses safety risks and can negatively impact the matchday experience of other supporters. Failure to comply with stewards’ instructions may result in removal from the ground and further sanctions.
Debate Over Atmosphere
Fans are trying to create an atmosphere, as encouraged by Jurgen Klopp, but Liverpool must adhere to regulations. This issue will be heavily debated as the club seeks to find a balance between fan experience and safety.
Hope for Full Capacity
The club hopes to reach full capacity in the upper tier by the end of January, in time for Chelsea’s league visit on the final day of the month. This would allow for a complete Anfield experience for all fans.
