Levi Colwill Delays Future Decision Pending Chelsea Manager Hire

Levi Colwill, who is currently on loan from Chelsea to Brighton, is waiting to see who Chelsea’s next manager will be before making a decision over his future at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are searching for a new head coach following the sacking of Graham Potter and Frank Lampard has been named interim manager until the end of the season. The Blues are looking to trim down their bloated squad, but they are keen to hold onto Colwill due to his impressive performances for Brighton this season. The 20-year-old defender has made 17 appearances for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, helping them to seventh in the Premier League table and the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Colwill was expected to play for Chelsea this season, but they instead loaned him out and signed Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Benoit Badiashile to cover the left-sided centre-back position. With two years left on his contract, Chelsea want to tie Colwill down to a new long-term deal, but he is in no rush to make a choice and wants to see who will be in the dugout next season first. Should he choose to leave, Brighton are keen on signing him permanently, while ‘big-six’ rivals Liverpool and Manchester City are also keeping tabs on the England U21 international. Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi have both left Chelsea prematurely in recent seasons, and Lampard will be hoping his side can overturn a two-goal deficit when they host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Colwill and Brighton will be preparing for their FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United where they’ll be aiming to reach only their second ever FA Cup final.
