Liverpool’s Attempt to Recall Fabio Carvalho from Loan Dismissed by RB Leipzig’s Sporting Director
RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Rouven Schroder, has dismissed reports of Liverpool’s intention to recall Fabio Carvalho from his loan spell in January as “power games.” Liverpool has initiated talks with Leipzig regarding the early termination of Carvalho’s deal. However, Leipzig seems determined to hold onto the Portuguese player.
Carvalho has had limited playing time this season, featuring in only 13 matches and starting three times. His third start came in the Champions League dead rubber against Young Boys, coinciding with the news of his potential recall. Despite his lack of opportunities, Leipzig is satisfied with Carvalho’s performance and wants him to continue developing.
Meanwhile, Leipzig is expected to lose Emil Forsberg, their long-serving attacking midfielder, to New York Red Bulls in January. Forsberg has been a regular contributor for Leipzig this season, starting 11 out of 20 games. However, he is not considered a first-choice starter by manager Marco Rose. If Forsberg departs, it could open up more opportunities for Carvalho, but it is uncertain if he would receive the promised game time.
There were reports of Leipzig’s interest in Spanish winger Bryan Zaragoza before he decided to join Bayern Munich from Granada. This suggests that Leipzig may not have concrete plans to promote Carvalho despite assurances from Schroder and Rose.
According to The Athletic’s Gregg Evans, if Carvalho is recalled next month, he is unlikely to rejoin Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad and will likely be sent on another loan move. Several clubs have already shown interest in Carvalho, and Liverpool initially wanted to send him to another Premier League side.
Burnley and West Ham were previously linked with Carvalho during the summer transfer window, but it remains to be seen if a deal can be reached with either club in January.
