Sam: It’s a great result, but it’s only one game.
We need to see a consistent run of form before we can start getting too excited.
It’s important to remember that this is a team that has been struggling for most of the season, so this result will mean nothing if we don’t back it up with more wins.
Monday’s heavy win over Leeds gave fans the chance to reflect positively, for once, on a Liverpool performance. Adam Beattie (@beatts94) described the away end as a “real display of solidarity” and praised the supporters for their commitment despite the team’s current struggles. Tom Eves (@TomEvesJourno) and Sam Millne (@sam_millne) discussed who impressed most in the 6-1 victory, with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s new position and Curtis Jones’ future being key talking points.
Alexander-Arnold looked great in his more advanced role, and Adam believes that this could be the long-term plan for the right-back. Tom and Sam both agreed that Andy Robertson had an excellent game, while Mo Salah was the standout player, taking his goals well and ending the season with an impressive tally.
Tom and Sam both agreed that Jones should be kept, as Liverpool are already losing Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer. Adam believes that next season will be massive for Jones if he is to carve out a long-term role within the side.
The trio discussed what kind of message a winning end to the season could send, even if Liverpool don’t qualify for the Champions League. Tom believes it is important to show transfer targets that Liverpool are still a very good team and an attractive side to come and play for, while Sam thinks it is important to restore some confidence back into the team heading into next season. Adam pointed out how momentum can help going into a new campaign, and that belief is everything which has been missing at times this season.
Finally, they discussed whether this could be another false dawn. Adam said he is very bored of false dawns this season and that they need to see a substantial run before drawing any conclusions. Tom was relieved to get the win and Sam said it is important to remember that this is a team that has been struggling for most of the season, so this result will mean nothing if they don’t back it up with more wins.
