Leandro Trossard has been ruled out of the Belgium squad for their Euro 2024 qualifiers with Austria and Estonia due to a minor operation. The 28-year-old joined Arsenal from Brighton in the January transfer window for £27m and has provided 10 assists and a goal across his first 22 games for the club. Trossard had been capped 26 times by Belgium and was in the Red Devils’ squads for Euro 2020 and the World Cup in Qatar last year.
Jamie Carragher has said that Trossard is the only player in the Arsenal squad capable of coming off the bench to ‘change a game’, which he believes is the biggest difference between them and eventual Premier League champions Manchester City. Arsenal were locked in a title race with City all season and despite leading the table for 248 days – and being eight points clear at one point – a late collapse saw them hand the trophy to Pep Guardiola’s team.
The Gunners must strengthen their squad this summer if they want to close the gap to City and have been linked with several players, including Declan Rice. They are also rumoured to be interested in two City stars – Ilkay Gundogan and Joao Cancelo – having recruited Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer.
