Leandro Trossard reveals Arsenal’s key tactic in win over Everton
Arsenal secured a hard-fought three points at Everton on Sunday, with Leandro Trossard grabbing the winner with a fine goal.
Goodison Park has long been a hoodoo ground for the Gunners, with no wins there in the Premier League since 2017, but on this occasion they outclassed the Toffees, though one aspect of their game caught the eye, with many of their 11 corners being played short, including the one that lead to the winning goal.
Trossard: We Wanted to Exploit Everton
Trossard told Sky Sports post-match: ‘They [Everton] have a lot of tall guys and they’re good on set-pieces. We wanted to exploit them. We work hard on everything tactically. It’s always nice to help your team, especially with a winning goal. I think it’s a great action. I called B [Bukayo Saka] and he saw me with a perfect lay-off. It went in perfectly and I’m very happy.’
The Belgian winger also spoke about his ability to use both feet: ‘I’ve been practicing all my life on both feet and you can see it helps you. It’s so helpful if you’re good on both feet – you can go both ways and score off either.’
Arteta: We Have to Keep Finding Different Weapons to Win Games
Mikel Arteta echoed his winger’s words, telling BBC Sport: ‘We have to keep finding different weapons to win games. We win a lot of corners and we have to maximise that, for sure. It was a long time without a win here. We played a great game, we didn’t give anything away. We dominated the game and created numerous chances. The score should probably have been bigger. I really enjoyed this. Against Manchester United, I saw my face after and it was a bit of relief. This was enjoyment. The 11 players played really well. We had numerous chances, we were patient and Leandro produced an incredible finish to win the game.’
The result moves Arsenal up to fourth in the league, two points behind leaders Manchester City and unbeaten after five games.
