
Mauricio Pochettino has been tasked with solving Chelsea’s problems as he prepares to take over as manager next season. The Argentine, who has been out of club management for a year since leaving Paris Saint-Germain, was widely expected to return to Tottenham, but Chelsea secured his services instead. Pochettino faces a big clean-up operation at Stamford Bridge after a forgettable season that saw the Blues slump to 12th place in the Premier League and miss out on European football next year. Outgoing caretaker boss Frank Lampard refused to be drawn on whether the job is the most challenging it has been in the last 20 years, but he did offer a tongue-in-cheek wish to Pochettino, saying: “It’s his problem, I guess.”
