Lamine Yamal: Breaking Records and Shaking Up Football

Date:

Lamine Yamal: The Youngest Breakthrough Star in Football History

At just 17 years old, Lamine Yamal has already achieved what many football legends could only dream of at his age. Breaking records left and right, he has become a force to be reckoned with on the pitch. And now, he has the opportunity to make history once again as he vies to become the youngest person to win the Euros.

Yamal’s rise to stardom has been nothing short of remarkable. Before turning 17, he had already made 51 appearances for Barcelona, scoring seven goals and setting up another seven. His performances for Spain have been equally impressive, with 13 appearances, three goals, and six assists. Comparing his stats to the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at the same age is mind-boggling. Neither Messi nor Ronaldo had played a single first-team game for club or country when they were 16.

Even when we consider the rising stars who are expected to take over from Messi and Ronaldo, such as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, their accomplishments at Yamal’s age pale in comparison. Mbappe had played four games for Monaco and made one assist before turning 17, while Haaland had played 23 times in Norway, scoring just once.

Yamal’s breakthrough into professional football came at an incredibly young age. He made his debut for Barcelona at just 15 years and 290 days old, becoming the youngest player in the La Liga era. Since then, he has shattered numerous club records. He became the youngest player to start a La Liga game since 1939 at the age of 16 years and 38 days. One week later, he became the youngest player to assist a La Liga goal in the 21st century. He also holds the titles for the youngest player to start a game in the Champions League, the youngest goalscorer in La Liga history, and the youngest player to play in El Clasico.

Yamal’s achievements for Spain are equally astonishing. In a Euro 2024 qualifying match against Georgia, he became Spain’s youngest player and goalscorer at just 16 years and 57 days old. This summer’s Euro finals have been a showcase of his talent, as he has broken nearly every record there is to break. He became the first 16-year-old to play at a men’s Euros, the youngest assister in Euros history, and the youngest goalscorer in European Championship history.

As Yamal prepares for the final against England, he has the chance to make history once again. If he helps Spain secure victory, he will become the youngest person to win the Euros. Additionally, he could become the first 17-year-old to score at a Euros, as he celebrated his 17th birthday just a day before the final. The previous youngest Euros goalscorer was Johan Vonlanthen at 18 years old.

Amidst his incredible accomplishments, a heartwarming photo has resurfaced from a charity calendar photoshoot in 2007. The photo shows a 20-year-old Messi holding baby Yamal and helping him have a bath. Little did anyone know at the time that this baby would go on to become a rising star in football. Photographer Joan Monfort, who captured the moment, recently discovered that the baby in the picture was none other than Yamal himself.

With his exceptional talent and already impressive track record, Yamal is poised to become a legend at Barcelona and beyond. As he continues to make history on the pitch, there is no doubt that he will inspire future generations of young players to dream big.
