Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has revealed that the club were already aware of his desire not to extend his deal beyond 2024. The Frenchman shocked supporters on Monday night when reports broke that he would not extend his contract, which includes a 12-month extension clause that would keep him in the French capital until 2025. However, both parties have to ‘opt-in’ in order for the clause to come into effect and Mbappe is not willing to stay. It comes after Karim Benzema’s exit from Real Madrid, with Mbappe feeling it may be now or never to make his move to the Bernabeu.
Mbappe has 12 months left on his deal and PSG will have to cash in on him this summer or risk losing him on a free in 2024. But Mbappe says this situation should come as no surprise to the club, who he told 12 months ago that he would not extend his deal. ‘PSG has been informed since July 15, 2022, of my decision not to extend beyond 2024, and the letter that was sent only served to confirm what I had already told them,’ said Mbappe.
Replying to claims that he wants to join Real Madrid, Mbappe responded on Twitter to insist he was ‘very happy in Paris’. ‘LIES,’ said Mbappe. ‘At the same time, the bigger it is, the more it passes. I have already said that I will continue next season at PSG where I am very happy.’ Real Madrid are leading the race for the World Cup winner, but Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United could all afford the Frenchman.
