Kyle Walker Takes Aim at Arsenal, Preferring Liverpool to Win League

Former Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker has stirred up some controversy by expressing his preference for Liverpool to win the Premier League title over Arsenal. In an appearance on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel, Walker took a little dig at the heavy Manchester City influence in Arsenal’s team and backed his former club’s bitter rivals, Liverpool, to come out on top.

A Tight Race for the Title

With just two points separating Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City, the race for the Premier League title is heating up. Arsenal has a chance to claim the top spot temporarily if they can overcome Brentford on Saturday evening. However, all eyes will be on the mouth-watering showdown between Liverpool and City at Anfield on Sunday.

City’s Struggles at Anfield

City has not had much success away to Liverpool since Pep Guardiola took charge. In fact, they have only won once at Anfield, and that was behind closed doors during the Covid pandemic. The upcoming game against Liverpool will surely be a tough test for City, but they will be hoping to replicate their 4-1 win over Arsenal at the Etihad last season.

Walker’s Loyalty to Spurs

During the interview with Ferdinand, Walker made it clear that his loyalty still lies with his former club, Tottenham. When asked if he is impressed by what Arsenal is doing, Walker couldn’t help but take a playful jab at them. He pointed out how heavily Arsenal has borrowed from Guardiola, mentioning their assistant coach and players like Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus. However, he did give credit to Arsenal for building a very good team.

A Rivalry Rekindled

Walker’s comments have fanned the flames of rivalry between City and Arsenal. Referring to Arsenal’s win at the Emirates earlier this season, Walker confidently stated that the better team won on the day. He then issued a challenge to Arsenal, urging them to come to the Etihad, where City will be waiting.

Walker’s Spurs Allegiance

It’s no secret that Walker still has a deep affection for his former club, Tottenham. When asked if he would rather see Arsenal or Liverpool win the league if City doesn’t, Walker didn’t hesitate to express his preference for Liverpool. He explained that his loyalty to Spurs prevents him from wanting Arsenal to lift the title.

Walker Avoids Controversy

In the interview, Walker was also asked about comments made by his England teammate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who claimed that Liverpool’s trophies meant more than City’s. Unlike some of his teammates, Walker chose not to engage in a war of words and simply stated that he wouldn’t get involved.

In Conclusion

Kyle Walker’s recent comments have added fuel to the fire of rivalry between Arsenal and Manchester City. While praising Arsenal’s improved team, Walker couldn’t help but take a dig at their heavy reliance on Guardiola’s methods. However, his loyalty to his former club, Tottenham, shines through as he openly admits preferring Liverpool to win the league. With the Premier League title race heating up, it remains to be seen which team will come out on top and whether Walker’s wishes will be fulfilled.
