Former Liverpool Striker Dirk Kuyt Takes Next Step in Management
Dirk Kuyt, the former Liverpool striker, has embarked on his next managerial role after a year since his first senior managerial position ended. Kuyt began his coaching career as an assistant at Quick Boys, an amateur side in the Netherlands, in 2017. He later took charge of Feyenoord U19s.
In November last year, Kuyt had his first stint as a manager in the second tier of Dutch football with ADO Den Haag. However, he was removed from his post after just six months, with the team sitting 17th in the table. Now, after 13 months, Kuyt has become the head coach of Beerschot, a Belgian second division side.
New Role at Beerschot
Kuyt has signed a short-term deal to remain at Beerschot until the end of the season. He replaces Austrian coach Andreas Wieland at the club. In a statement released by the club, Kuyt expressed his happiness about joining a club with a rich tradition and history. He sees Beerschot as the perfect next step in his career and is excited to start this new challenge with energy and enthusiasm.
Kuyt’s Playing Career and Testimonial
Kuyt ended his playing days at Quick Boys in 2018, where he later began his coaching journey. His testimonial match featured former Liverpool teammates Steven Gerrard and Luis Garcia, among others. During his time at Liverpool, Kuyt made 285 appearances across six seasons and won the League Cup under Kenny Dalglish in his final season. He became a popular figure on the Kop due to his workmanlike attitude and knack for scoring crucial goals.
Next Challenge for Kuyt
Liverpool fans will be hoping for Kuyt’s success in his latest venture. His new role at Beerschot will begin with a league match against De Graafschap after the winter break in the Netherlands on January 12.
