Kobbie Mainoo: Manchester United starlet says he will ‘be back in no time’ after injury scare
Manchester United starlet Kobbie Mainoo says he will ‘be back in no time’ after limping off injured during a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid.
The 18-year-old, who made his first-team debut earlier this year, turned in an impressive display in United’s opening game of their pre-season tour of the US against Arsenal.
He was handed another start against Los Blancos in Houston on Wednesday night but was forced off after just three minutes after picking up an injury.
Mainoo was later seen leaving the stadium wearing a protective boot and on crutches, sparking concern amongst United fans.
The midfielder has now sought to ease those fears, writing on Instagram: ‘I’ll be back stronger and in no time. Thank you for your messages of support.’
Mainoo’s Injury Update
Speaking after the 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid, ten Hag was unable to offer a complete update on Mainoo but was hopeful his young star had avoided severe injury.
‘I understand the question but you can never tell straight after a game. We have to wait for what it is,’ said Ten Hag.
‘Hopefully he is not too bad and chances will come.’
In a further boost, Mainoo has remained with the United squad in the US ahead of their final tour game against Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas on Monday.
Mainoo Praised by Club Legends
Mainoo meanwhile has been tipped to have an extremely bright future at United by club legend Bryan Robson.
‘He’s calculated and he’s reading the game, doing things in his own time,’ Robson said.
‘He closes down really well, receives the ball and changes the pattern of the game, quickens it up when he wants to and he’s using his football brain. I’m quite impressed with him.’
Conclusion
Kobbie Mainoo has been making a claim for a first-team role in the US and his injury scare has been met with concern from Manchester United fans. However, Mainoo has sought to ease those fears with an update on Instagram, saying that he will be back stronger and in no time.
