Klopp’s Unique Request to Salah for Crucial Man Utd Match
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made a surprising request to Mohamed Salah during their Europa League match against Prague. Klopp, who usually encourages his players to give their all on the pitch, asked Salah not to run in order to avoid any potential injuries ahead of their crucial match against Manchester United in the FA Cup.
With Liverpool virtually through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League after a commanding 5-1 win in the first leg, Klopp could have opted to rest key players. However, he chose to include Salah in the starting lineup, despite the risk of injury.
Salah, who was making his first start for Liverpool since New Year’s Day, followed Klopp’s instructions and limited his running during the match. Klopp admitted that this was a request he had never made before in his managerial career.
“He is experienced enough that he could recover during the game,” said Klopp. “I told him not to run; I don’t think I’ve ever told a player to do that before!”
Liverpool wasted no time in putting the tie to bed, scoring three goals in just four minutes within the opening ten minutes of the match. Darwin Nunez and Bobby Clark found the back of the net before Salah added his name to the scoresheet.
While Liverpool’s victory over Prague was already secure, Klopp had one eye on their upcoming clash against Manchester United in the FA Cup. The rivalry between these two clubs is intense, and Klopp wanted to ensure that his key players were fit and ready for the challenge.
By asking Salah not to run, Klopp hoped to minimize the risk of injury and keep his star player fresh for the crucial match against Manchester United. It was a unique request from the Liverpool manager, but one that he felt was necessary given the importance of the upcoming fixture.
Liverpool’s victory over Prague and Salah’s adherence to Klopp’s request bode well for their chances against Manchester United. The Reds will be hoping to continue their impressive run of form and secure a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.
