Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has taken full responsibility for the club’s disappointing season. The Reds are currently sitting in eighth place in the Premier League table, 29 points behind league leaders Arsenal. They are also on track to end the season without a trophy after being knocked out of both the Champions League and FA Cup. As the season draws to a close, Klopp has apologized to Liverpool fans for what he called a “rubbish” nine months.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Klopp said, “I’m sorry for our fans, that they don’t have the season they wished for. But in the long term they will forget that. I couldn’t care less what we did last year or the years before. I’m 100 per cent responsible for this rubbish and it’s really not cool.”
Klopp’s admission has been praised by fans, with one person tweeting, “These are brilliant words from Klopp. ‘Couldn’t care less about last season’ is spot on right now. Just shows he has the right mindset.” Another added, “Absolutely love the bones of him – never leave Jurgen.”
Despite the disappointing season, Klopp believes that Liverpool will bounce back next season. He said, “I know everybody can express their emotions in an instant and there will be a lot of negative comments about us – I understand that. But the people in the stadium are incredible. You see things happening at other clubs, not only sackings but teams against owners, fans against owners, fans against the team – I’ve seen it all. But if anyone can get through a situation like this in a classy manner, I really think it’s us as a club.”
Liverpool will face league leaders Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. A win could send the club up to seventh place in the table.
