Jurgen Klopp Provides Update on Virgil van Dijk’s Absence for Liverpool’s Win Against Arsenal
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has explained the absence of Virgil van Dijk during their 2-0 victory against Arsenal. Klopp expressed hope that the defender would be back in action for their upcoming midweek match.
Van Dijk had traveled with the rest of the Liverpool squad to London for the FA Cup tie against Arsenal but left the team hotel on the eve of the game. This unexpected move led to his surprise omission from the teamsheet.
Reports suggest that Van Dijk missed out on the match due to illness. In his absence, Jarell Quansah partnered with Ibrahima Konate in defense, with no senior center-back available on the bench.
Despite Van Dijk’s absence, Liverpool managed to keep a clean sheet, with Quansah and Konate performing exceptionally well. During his post-match press conference, Klopp was asked about Van Dijk’s situation.
Klopp humorously commented, “It’s difficult for Virg to look shit, but he did.” He further explained that Van Dijk was ill and had to be sent home.
When asked if he hoped Van Dijk would be back for the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham on Wednesday, Klopp replied, “Yes, I’m hopeful, but I don’t know.”
Klopp praised the performance of Quansah and Konate, describing it as “top, top, oh my god!” He also highlighted the contributions of Trent Alexander-Arnold and goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The hope now is that Van Dijk recovers quickly and can participate in Wednesday night’s match at Anfield.
