Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp Confirms Christmas Break After Hectic Run of Games
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has announced that the team will finally get a well-deserved Christmas break after a busy schedule of games. The Reds ended the year on a high note with a 2-0 victory over Burnley, thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.
The win marked the end of a challenging period for Liverpool, with four games played in just 10 days and a total of eight games in 24 days throughout December. Despite the tight schedule, the team managed to secure five wins, two draws, and one loss.
Due to their fixtures against Arsenal on December 23 and Burnley on Boxing Day, Klopp and his players had little time to enjoy the festive season. However, speaking after the game at Turf Moor, Klopp revealed that the team would now have a two-day break to celebrate Christmas.
Reflecting on the demanding schedule, Klopp said, “It’s the fourth game in 10 days. Whatever the body is doing then and how you lose focus and how you are not as precise anymore in the decisive moments, you never know and you just have to get through it. That’s what we said before that phase, now we got through it. Now we have five days, I think, between now and the next game, which feels like we should go on holiday really! Really mad. The boys now have two days off. I told them already before the game: if we win, we have two days off.”
While some players may still need to train during the break, Klopp emphasized the importance of rest for the squad before their upcoming match against Newcastle on New Year’s Day. The team hopes to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League table, although Virgil van Dijk stressed that they are not looking too far ahead.
Van Dijk said, “It’s December, so we won’t look too far ahead. I’m very pleased because it’s the last game of the year for us. Now it’s time to have a little bit of time together with our families and then we focus on Newcastle. We will see, we will focus on ourselves and we’ll see in February, March, how the table looks. But we are definitely hoping to be up there and competing with the others, let’s see where we could be.”
The Liverpool captain also mentioned that he plans to spend quality time with his family during the break, as the team has been away for most of the recent period.
