Kerys Harrop has etched her name into the history books after becoming the all-time record holder for most Women’s Super League appearances. The Tottenham Hotspur defender has played her 178th game in the competition, which began in 2011. Harrop made her debut for Birmingham City that year and went on to play 135 league games for them. During her nine years at the club, she was part of two second-placed league finishes and helped them to FA Cup success in 2012.
Harrop joined Spurs in 2020 and has since played 43 times in the competition. Vicky Jepson, Spurs’ interim manager, spoke highly of the defender, saying “She’s a born winner.” Jepson also highlighted Harrop’s journey from paying to play to now being paid to play. She added that Harrop is “so competitive” and “will literally die for three points”.
West Ham’s Longhurst has the chance to equal Harrop’s record when they play Liverpool on Sunday (17:00 BST). Harrop’s achievement is a testament to her dedication and commitment to the WSL, and she will no doubt be an inspiration to many aspiring female footballers.
