Keep Kane at Spurs: Post Must Deliver

Date:

after treble success with Celtic

Tottenham fans were hoping for Mauricio Pochettino to return, but instead they are set to appoint Ange Postecoglou as their next manager. Postecoglou has just won the treble in Scotland with Celtic and is the heavy odds-on favourite to be the next Spurs manager with a deal set to be wrapped up in the next few days. Postecoglou is known for his character, his team plays attacking football while putting in a spirited shift and he encourages the best out of individuals. His first job will be to persuade Harry Kane to stay and the signs are the England captain will stick around for another year until his contract expires. Real Madrid and Manchester United will undoubtedly test Spurs’ resolve but it will cost at least £100million to do so and both clubs have other needs to fill. Kane scored 30 goals in the top flight last season which was just six behind Erling Haaland and ten clear of Ivan Toney in third place. Kane’s preference seems to be to stay in the Premier League and he’s obviously focused on breaking Alan Shearer’s all-time competition goalscoring record. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy knows he will face even greater wrath from fans if the face of the club is sold to a domestic rival and Kane, who celebrates his 30th birthday next month, must realise he will make an absolute mint as a free agent next summer. With Postecoglou set to take over at Tottenham, Celtic will need a new manager and former boss Brendan Rodgers is the clear 5/4 favourite with Paddy Power and Betfair to return to Parkhead.
