Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to congratulate him on winning the Ballon d’Or.

The Frenchman won the award last month in recognition of his sensational campaign last season.

Benzema scored 44 goals in 46 appearances, helping Madrid to victory in the Champions League and La Liga.

The forward has been the main man at the Bernabeu since Ronaldo’s departure in 2018, having played second fiddle to the Portuguese superstar during his nine years in the Spanish capital.

Benzema has enjoyed his best goalscoring seasons since Ronaldo’s exit but he was the perfect team-mate when Ronaldo was at the club, providing the ideal foil for the United forward to reach the heights he did.

Now it’s Benzema’s time to shine but despite showing support for Ronaldo throughout the years, it doesn’t appear that the veteran has shown the same for Benzema.

Asked if Ronaldo had congratulated him on his Ballon d’Or victory, Benzema admitted the Portuguese superstar had not made contact with him.

    ‘No, not yet,’ said Benzema.

Benzema returned to France’s squad for the European Championships and he’s been included in the 26-man squad for the World Cup.

The forward was not in the 2018 squad that won in Russia four years ago and he admits it would be a dream to do so in Qatar.

‘Winning the World Cup would be one of my best ever birthday presents,” he said.

‘Each match will be a cup final. We’ve got a great group of players, we’re going to take it one game at a time.

‘I’ve had a few little fitness issues but nothing serious. There’s still plenty of time until the 22nd. I’ll be fine, I’ll be physically and mentally ready.’
