Karim Benzema only behind Cristiano Ronaldo in Real Madrid goal rankings as his 324th club strike helps them to Super Cup win over Eintracht Frankfurt

Karim Benzema moved ahead of Raul in Real Madrid’s all-time goalscoring charts as his strike helped them to a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup.

The French forward fired past Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp on 65 minutes after being teed up by Champions League final hero Vinicius Jr.

Earlier, David Alaba netted in the first half. The Austrian defender slotted into an empty net after Casemiro did well to win a header on the byline following a corner.

And Benzema’s goal, his first of the season and 324th for Real Madrid, killed the exhibition tie off as the European champions claimed a deserved victory over last season’s Europa League winners.

As mentioned, Benzema is now ahead of Raul for Real Madrid goals, meaning he’s their second highest goalscorer ever.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more Los Blancos goals, the Portuguese netting a stunning 450 times for them.

Benzema was a support act before Ronaldo left the club in 2018 and recently admitted that his role changed after Ronaldo departed.

Benzema explained before the match: “It’s been different for me since Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid.

“It’s true that I’ve scored many more goals, but when Cristiano was here, we had a different style of play, I was providing more assists.

“He really helped me on and off the pitch.

“But at that time, I did know that I could do more and when he left, it was the time to change my game, change my ambitions and I am doing that well at the moment.”

At 34 years old it seems unlikely Benzema will catch up with Ronaldo’s stunning haul. But the rate at which he’s netting, you wouldn’t put it past him to make it.
