Kai Havertz Trains with Arsenal Teammates for the First Time
Arsenal have completed the signing of German international Kai Havertz in a £65million deal. The 24-year-old has trained with his new teammates for the first time and is expected to be joined by incoming new recruits Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming pre-season tour of America.
Mikel Arteta is excited to work with the versatile midfielder who spent three largely frustrating years at Stamford Bridge. The Arsenal boss is confident that Havertz will bring a huge amount of extra strength to the midfield and variety to the team’s play.
Havertz was not deemed ready to feature in Saturday’s behind closed doors friendly against Watford which ended in a 1-1 draw. Ismael Kone opened the scoring for the Championship side shortly before the break only for Marquinhos, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Norwich, to level the game from close range after Amario Cozier-Duberry’s shot was saved.
The German international could be ready for next week’s friendly against Nurnberg in Germany and Arteta is relishing the prospect of working with him. He said: “Kai is a player of top quality. He has great versatility and is an intelligent player. He will bring a huge amount of extra strength to our midfield and variety to our play. We welcome Kai and his family to Arsenal Football Club and we are all excited to start working with him when we start pre-season training soon.”
Havertz is expected to be joined by incoming new recruits Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming pre-season tour of America. Thomas Partey has made his transfer decision with Declan Rice set for an Arsenal medical while Kylian Mbappe’s preferred Premier League transfer destination has been revealed.
William Saliba has opened up on his injury that cost Arsenal the Premier League title while Jurrien Timber was spotted at Ajax friendly after undergoing an Arsenal medical.
