Juventus Eyeing Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher as Goalkeeper Option
Italian giants Juventus are reportedly considering a move for Liverpool’s goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. The 25-year-old impressed during Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States, where he played all three matches as first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker had extended time off after the Copa America. Kelleher’s standout performance came in the 3-0 victory over Manchester United, where he made several excellent saves to keep a clean sheet.
Juventus have been monitoring Kelleher’s form and are now seriously considering making a move for the Irish international. Liverpool would likely demand a fee of at least £30 million for Kelleher, who still has two years left on his contract with the club. However, this price tag is unlikely to deter Juventus, who see Kelleher as a long-term investment and potential number one goalkeeper for the next five years.
Although Celtic were previously rumored to be interested in Kelleher, they ultimately signed Kasper Schmeichel on a free transfer instead. Kelleher has ambitions of becoming a first-choice goalkeeper at another club and may be open to a move despite his positive pre-season performances.
In the 2020-2021 season, Kelleher made 26 appearances for Liverpool, stepping up to deputize for Alisson during his injury spells. However, it is expected that Kelleher will have to settle for a place behind the 31-year-old Brazilian in the pecking order in the long term.
Liverpool, on the other hand, has yet to make any additions to their first-team squad this summer. They are rumored to be interested in signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but the deal is said to be complicated due to the player’s hefty release clause of £51.7 million.
As transfer speculations continue to swirl, fans will eagerly await updates on Kelleher’s future and whether Juventus will make an official bid for the talented goalkeeper. Until then, Liverpool will rely on the Irishman’s abilities as a reliable backup option to Alisson Becker.
