Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson Plans to Play Against Cincinnati Bengals Despite Chest Injury
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson confirmed on Wednesday that he intends to play in Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, despite sustaining a chest injury in the team’s recent victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jefferson, who is currently listed as day to day, left the game in the second quarter after a hard hit to the torso from Raiders safety Marcus Epps. As a precautionary measure, he was ruled out for the remainder of the game and taken to a local hospital. However, Jefferson described the injury as a “bruise” and expressed optimism about his recovery.
“It didn’t really hurt to breathe fully or move. So, it was all good signs after the game,” Jefferson stated.
This game against the Bengals will mark Jefferson’s return after missing several weeks due to a hamstring injury. Prior to his injury, he had two catches for 27 yards in Week 5.
Impact on the Vikings’ Offense
Jefferson’s presence on the field will undoubtedly benefit the struggling Vikings’ offense. Over their last three games, the team has struggled offensively, ranking 22nd in the NFL in points per drive. With injuries to key players like right tackle Brian O’Neill and running back Alexander Mattison, the offense has been depleted. Rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison and tight end T.J. Hockenson have been relied upon heavily, but Jefferson’s return will provide quarterback Nick Mullens with a reliable target and force the Bengals’ defense to adjust their coverage, opening up opportunities for the rushing attack.
Justin Jefferson, who led the NFL in receptions last season, winning Offensive Player of the Year and being a finalist for MVP, is eager to make an impact and help his team secure a victory against the Bengals.
