Jurgen Klopp made his first public appearance since leaving Liverpool as he attended the Champions League final between Dortmund and Real Madrid at Wembley. Despite receiving lucrative offers to work as a TV pundit for the match, Klopp chose to support his former club Dortmund instead. LFCTV commentator and UEFA media advisor, John Bradley, revealed that Klopp turned down the opportunity to be a part of UEFA’s VVIPs and opted to sit in a box behind the fans with his family. When asked about his decision, Klopp explained that Edin Terzic, the current Dortmund boss, had always supported his team, so he wanted to show his support in return.
Terzic, who has been a lifelong supporter of Dortmund, held various roles with the club during Klopp’s tenure, including serving as a youth coach. He has always been there to support the team, even during their previous Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich in 2013. Klopp’s decision to attend the match as a fan was further emphasized by his Instagram post before kickoff, where he wrote, “Tonight I am a fan!”
After leaving Liverpool, Klopp plans to spend his time traveling with his family and enjoying football again. He is currently building a house on the Spanish island of Majorca. He expressed his intention to continue watching games and supporting his favorite teams, including Dortmund. Klopp acknowledged that if the next Liverpool manager doesn’t prefer him in the stands, it would not bother him. He drew parallels to his time at Mainz when he couldn’t attend their games while managing Dortmund. However, now that he has more freedom, he intends to attend matches and relish the experience of being a spectator once again.
