Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool Football Club, has likened the talk of expensive transfers to a five-year-old asking for a Ferrari for Christmas. Despite the speculation, the Reds will not be pursuing a move for England midfielder Jude Bellingham due to the financial implications. Reports suggest that any transfer for the 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund player could cost in excess of £100m.
Klopp addressed the issue, saying: “We cannot have six players in a summer, everyone for £100m. We are not children; when you ask a five-year-old what they want for Christmas and they say a Ferrari, you wouldn’t say ‘oh, that’s a good idea’. You would say ‘no, that is too expensive and anyway, you cannot drive it’. If this kid is then their whole life unhappy because he cannot get a Ferrari, it would be a really sad life. You look what you can do, and you work with that.”
The German manager went on to explain that Liverpool will do everything they can to get what they need and want, but there are times when they have to accept that certain things are not possible. He concluded by saying that in such cases, they have to step aside and pursue different options.
Liverpool will have Luis Diaz available when they face Leeds United at Elland Road on Monday (20:00 BST). More updates to follow.
