Jurgen Klopp has revealed what referee Paul Tierney told him when he showed him a yellow card at Anfield. Klopp had been the subject of criticism for his conduct during and after Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Tottenham. When asked, Klopp said that Tierney had told him “for me, it’s a red card, but because of [the fourth official, it’s a yellow]”. Klopp had expected a yellow card and was angry due to a foul on Mohamed Salah that he believed was not called. He also discussed his “history” with Tierney, which dates back to 2017, and suggested that the official had let Liverpool down in “decisive games”, though not intentionally. He also denied lying about the incident, saying “I did a lot of things that day, but I didn’t lie.”
