Dominik Szoboszlai continues to impress as Liverpool beat Leicester City in Carabao Cup
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits he is surprised how quickly Dominik Szoboszlai has settled in at the club after another eye-catching performance on Wednesday night.
The 22-year-old arrived from RB Leipzig over the summer with plenty of hype, but without any Premier League experience and fitting into a new-look Reds midfield, there was no guarantee he would be an instant hit.
However, that is exactly what he has been and he continued to delight the Liverpool fans on Wednesday as he rifled in a screamer in the 3-1 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.
Szoboszlai’s Belter Puts Liverpool Ahead
The Hungarian hammered in a strike into the top corner 70 minutes into the game, which was crucial as the Reds fell behind against the Championship side within two minutes before Cody Gakpo equalised shortly after half-time.
Szoboszlai’s belter put the favourites back ahead before Diogo Jota finished off the scoring and Klopp admitted afterwards that he is surprised just how good his new signing has been so early on in his Liverpool career.
“Dom [Szoboszlai] was a surprise with how fast he has fit in, it was pretty much from the first minute,” said Klopp. “Top-class player with a lot of quality. He never stops. He learns a lot from the game.”
Klopp Praises Youngsters
On the game, the German added: ‘It was not the best start, it was actually the opposite. We had big chances in the first half and couldn’t believe we didn’t score.
‘Leicester are a good side and very well set up. Minute by minute we turned it around and it was a good performance. There were so many little stories.’
Liverpool have drawn Bournemouth away in the fourth round after the Cherries beat Stoke 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Dominik Szoboszlai has been an instant hit for Liverpool since his arrival over the summer and his performance against Leicester City on Wednesday night was yet another reminder of his quality. Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for the Hungarian, admitting he was surprised by how quickly he has settled in at Anfield. The Reds are now through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup where they will face Bournemouth away from home.
