Jurgen Klopp on FSG Talks, Liverpool Transfers

Jurgen Klopp met with Fenway Sports Group chief John Henry this week, though the Liverpool manager insisted it was “not like” what fans expect. FSG founder and Liverpool owner Henry was spotted at the London Stadium during the Reds’ 2-1 win over West Ham on Wednesday, prompting speculation that the meeting was to discuss plans for the rebuild of Klopp’s squad, with a busy summer expected. Klopp described the meeting as “good” and said it was “really funny” how far the story stretched. He went on to explain that he and Henry have a “really good relationship” and that they will do business, but that football is “crazy” and that people expect Liverpool to bring in five, six, or seven players. Klopp also commented on Chelsea’s recent struggles, saying that their bloated squad is an “example on the highest level that you cannot do it like that.” He believes that Chelsea will be fine in the end and will be incredibly strong next year, but that it is important to build relationships and team spirit in order to create a successful team. Liverpool are already in the process of doing this, with the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Stefan Bajcetic, and Harvey Elliott forming the core of a “new team.” When asked whether it would only be a few players brought in this summer, Klopp replied: “We will see.”
