Jurgen Klopp Has Sympathy for Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku After Injury
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he has sympathy for Christopher Nkunku as the forward was set to be a ‘key part’ of Chelsea’s season before his injury.
The Frenchman has been ruled out for up to four months after sustaining a knee injury on the eve of the season. The forward joined the club in a £60m deal from RB Leipzig, which was agreed last December and completed this summer.
He had looked particularly good during pre-season as Mauricio Pochettino tries to blend a new team and squad together. Nkunku had been in line for his first team debut as Chelsea kick off their Premier League campaign against Liverpool.
Klopp’s Sympathy for Nkunku
And Klopp, who considered signing the Frenchman in 2022, says he’s saddened by the injury. ‘Nkunku was a key part of their plans and that’s unfortunate for the boy,’ said Klopp.
‘That wasn’t something they planned for but they have really good offensive plans still.’
Liverpool Take on Chelsea
Liverpool take on Chelsea this weekend at Stamford Bridge as they look to hijack the Blues’ move for Brighton ace Moises Caicedo. The Reds agreed a £111m deal with the Seagulls late on Thursday night.
Klopp confirmed as much in today’s press conference but personal terms are yet to be agreed. Chelsea remain determined to sign the Ecuador ace.
