Jurgen Klopp makes joke about Mohamed Salah’s new contract after allowing £85million new boy Darwin Nunez to take penalty in Liverpool’s pre-season win over RB Leipzig

Jurgen Klopp has joked that Mohamed Salah must have a new clause in his contract after selflessly allowing a teammate to take a penalty.

Liverpool faced RB Leipzig in a pre-season friendly and came away with an emphatic 5-0 victory over the German side.

It was the club’s new signing, Darwin Nunez, who inspired the team to glory with four goals to his name in the second half of the match.

One of the £85million signing’s efforts came as a surprise, with Nunez finding the back of the net from the penalty spot.

While the forward’s ability to convert from 12 yards was fully expected, it was more the decision from Mohamed Salah to give the spot kick away that left fans confused.

Salah is renowned for his ruthless – sometimes selfish – nature in front of goal, leaving Klopp to make a light-hearted joke about the Egyptian star’s decision.

He said: “Mo, I am not sure if it is because of his new contract or if he is being generous as hell, but he gave Darwin the penalty and Darwin was there.

    “The Pandora’s box was opened!”

Klopp then spoke about the impact of Nunez, saying that his goal haul will do wonders for his confidence.

“That’s the best way obviously to stop all these discussions,” added the Reds boss.

“We always think that if you pay a lot of money then the players feel no pressure or whatever. They are all completely normal human beings and the first touch is not perfect then all of a sudden.

“This generation of players read social media, which is really not smart, but they do. All of a sudden you get in a rush and these kinds of things.

“He’s a different striker to what we have or what we had, but he’s a really good one.

“That’s of course a perfect night for him.”
