Nuri Sahin, a former player under Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund, has officially started his new role as the manager of Dortmund, with Klopp wholeheartedly supporting him. Although Klopp is currently enjoying his time off and was recently seen watching tennis in Mallorca, Spain, he remains connected to football through his former players from Liverpool, Dortmund, and Mainz. One such player is Sahin, who had a brief loan spell at Liverpool but played a significant role under Klopp at Dortmund.
In an emotional Instagram post, Klopp reminisced about his first day at Dortmund 16 years ago and expressed his well-wishes for Sahin’s new position. He wrote, “Wishing you much success my friend, it will be great.” Sahin, who retired in 2021 to become the head coach of a Turkish team before joining Dortmund as an assistant coach under Edin Terzic, has now taken on the role previously held by Klopp himself.
Klopp sees himself in Sahin, noting that both started their coaching careers at a young age. He expressed his belief that Sahin will become an exceptional coach after his remarkable career as a player. With Sahin now at the helm, Dortmund’s pre-season will commence on July 10, with their official campaign starting against Phonix Lubeck in the DFB-Pokal on August 17.
While Klopp plans to savor his time away from the sport after nearly a decade at Liverpool, there is no doubt that he will make a trip to watch Sahin’s Dortmund in action soon enough. The bond between Klopp and his former players remains strong, and he continues to support and follow their journeys even from afar.
