Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his surprise and disappointment after learning that his team has gone 32 games without being awarded a penalty. The Reds were last given a spot-kick in April 2019 against Watford, and since then, they have had 1,138 touches in the penalty box without being awarded a penalty. Klopp was informed of the statistic during his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

Despite Liverpool’s lack of penalties, Klopp remains confident that his team is doing the right things. He pointed out that Liverpool still has the second most possession and the second most shots on goal in the Premier League. Klopp said that his team is often in the opposition box, and he has no idea how they have gone so long without being awarded a penalty.

Klopp also expressed his frustration with some of the strange decisions made by referees. He said that there have been many instances where he has thought, “wow, how is that possible?” Klopp finds it funny that Liverpool has gone so long without being awarded a penalty, but he hopes that his team will get one soon.

Liverpool’s run without a penalty is not unique in the Premier League. Bournemouth has not been awarded a penalty in 24 matches, while Brighton, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest have also had lengthy waits between penalties. Manchester United last had a spot-kick against Crystal Palace four games ago.

The longest run without a penalty in the English top division remains 91 games for Wimbledon between 1997 and 2000. Liverpool has had only one longer run without a penalty in the Premier League, which was 45 games between 1996 and 1997.

Liverpool’s lack of penalties is just one of the many challenges that the team has faced this season. The Reds have struggled to replicate their form from last season, which saw them win the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years. Liverpool is currently in fourth place in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Manchester United.

Despite their struggles, Klopp remains confident that his team can turn things around. He believes that Liverpool is still playing well and creating chances, but they need to be more clinical in front of goal. Klopp has urged his players to keep working hard and to stay positive as they look to close the gap on the top four.

Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United on Sunday is a crucial game for both teams. A win for Liverpool would close the gap on the top four and give them a much-needed boost of confidence. Meanwhile, a win for Manchester United would strengthen their position at the top of the table and put them in a strong position to challenge for the title.

Overall, Klopp’s comments about Liverpool’s lack of penalties highlight the frustrations that many managers feel about refereeing decisions in the Premier League. While some decisions may seem strange or unfair, managers must focus on their team’s performance and find ways to win games regardless of the decisions made by referees.
