Jurgen Klopp Absent for Liverpool vs Aston Villa

Liverpool continue their quest for Champions League football at home to Aston Villa this afternoon, but they will do so without manager Jurgen Klopp. The German has been handed a two-game ban from the FA for improper conduct following comments he made about referee Paul Tierney after Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over Tottenham back in April. The first match of his ban will see him barred from the touchline against Aston Villa, while the second game is suspended until the end of the 2023/24 season. Klopp accused Tierney of having an agenda against himself and Liverpool after the last minute win over Spurs and was booked by Tierney for his actions. He also referred back to last season’s clash between Liverpool and Tottenham, also officiated by Tierney, in which Andy Robertson was sent off but Harry Kane escaped without a red card for a nasty challenge. Klopp later admitted Tierney does not have an agenda against either himself or the club and said he regrets the situation ever happened. Liverpool will still be quietly confident of walking away with the three points against Villa, who themselves are still in the hunt for a European spot next term.
