Tottenham are reportedly ramping up their pursuit of former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann, with the German tactician increasingly warming to the job. The 35-year-old was blindsided by his sudden dismissal at Bayern and has already walked away from talks with Chelsea, having had concerns over the direction of the club and their recruitment approach. However, according to Sky Sport Germany, Nagelsmann is now entertaining interest from Tottenham and is open to taking over the reins in north London. The former RB Leipzig boss is actually something of a fan of the club, watching them extensively when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge and even coming to own a replica jersey. He believes they are a big club with big potential and considers them a ‘serious option’ to resume his managerial career.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is said to be ‘pushing hard’ to secure a deal, with further talks having taken place in the last few days. Nagelsmann still wants to understand how much influence he will have over transfers as well as the situation regarding the sporting director post. Spurs did have Fabio Paratici leading their recruitment but he was forced to step down after being banned from carrying out activities within football following an investigation into alleged financial mismanagement at Juventus. Sky’s report also claims Spurs are making progress on that front too and have spoken to Johannes Spors, who was actually chief scout at Hoffenheim when Nagelsmann was the head coach. Nagelsmann’s long-time mentor Ralf Rangnick recently encouraged his protege to take the Tottenham job, saying they were ‘an exciting club in many ways’. He continued: ‘They probably have one of the most modern, beautiful stadiums in the world, they have one of the best training centres and Daniel Levy, who has been leading the club for many, many years.’
