Tottenham have distanced themselves from a move for former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann and will not seek talks with the German, according to reports. The north London club had approached the 35-year-old back in 2021, before he joined Bayern, and there was a feeling that the north Londoners would be presented with a free run at one of the most exciting young coaches in Europe. However, The Evening Standard and others are reporting that Nagelsmann will not take over the reins at Spurs and they have not even held talks with the former RB Leipzig boss. Spurs insist they have not met with Nagelsmann since sacking Antonio Conte nor do they intend to, with the club instead looking at other options.
Feyenoord’s Arne Slot is thought to be high on Spurs’ shortlist of candidates, though he is currently focused on winning the Eredivisie – something he can achieve this weekend. Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso are also contenders, as are former Spain boss Luis Enrique, Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou. With nearly two months having passed since Conte was sacked, Spurs’ protracted managerial hunt is already drawing comparisons with the farcical 72-day search for Jose Mourinho’s successor. Tottenham had hoped to have a new manager installed before the end of the month, though that now looks increasingly unlikely.
