Jude Bellingham: England should not shy away from aiming for major tournament success
England midfielder Jude Bellingham has set his sights on winning major tournaments with the Three Lions for the next 10-15 years, believing the team should not shy away from aiming for the top.
Bellingham, who has already made 26 appearances for England, is hoping to help the team win their first ever European Championship this summer and is determined to keep striving for European and World honours in the coming years.
“My goal for the next 12 months with the England team will be the same for the next 10-15 years: try to win major tournaments,” Bellingham told Reach Football. “I think we can’t shy away from saying that now. We’ve come close in the last few tournaments, and to now go back and say: “Ah yeah, that was enjoyable, but now we have to be more realistic”…I don’t see the point.
“We should use the experiences we’ve got from previous tournaments to push on and bring some silverware home. That’s the common goal that we are striving towards and we aren’t afraid to say that anymore.”
Bellingham’s Brilliant Start at Real Madrid
Since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund, Bellingham has made a sensational start to life at Real Madrid, scoring 10 goals in his first 10 games. When asked whether the 20-year-old is the best player in the world right now, England boss Gareth Southgate said he is certainly in the conversation.
“No, it’s not a stupid question. I haven’t seen everybody and studied everybody playing,” said Southgate. “All I can say is he’s at one of the biggest clubs in the world, arguably the biggest, and he’s playing exceptionally well and he’s currently the match-winner for them so he’s in a brilliant place.”
Conclusion
Jude Bellingham is determined to help England win major tournaments over the next 10-15 years and is already making a big impact at Real Madrid since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund. With Bellingham in such fine form, it’s no wonder England boss Gareth Southgate believes he is in contention for being the best player in the world right now.
