Jude Bellingham has ‘big decision to make’ in the summer, says ex-Liverpool striker, with Reds and Real Madrid in race for midfielder

Former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor has told talkSPORT he would ‘love to see’ Jude Bellingham at Anfield.

But the ex-Reds man has been realistic in his assessment of the midfielder’s next move, giving he could ‘have can take his pick’ out of the clubs interested in him this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are just one club linked with England and Borussia Dortmund’s 19-year-old midfield maestro.

Aside from him being tipped to join Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United, the Reds also face competition from Real Madrid, with Los Blancos believing their leading the race to sign him.

With the teenager expected to leave Dortmund this summer, the football world will be watching to see what step he takes next – and Mellor – who played 22 games for the Reds – hopes he’ll choose to move to Anfield.

“What an unbelievable player,” he told talkSPORT Breakfast on Thursday. “I think we’ve all seen that with England but also Dortmund.

“I think what you’d say about Bellingham is he can take his pick, he can go to any football club he wants to, what a privileged position he’s in. I think every club would love to have him.

“And from a Liverpool point of view – what a player – I’d love to see him playing for Liverpool.”

Following his breakthrough at Championship outfit Birmingham City, in just two years Bellingham has made 112 appearances for Dortmund – not to mention being called up to the England squad for Euro 2020 and this winter’s World Cup.

It’s easy to forget just how young the midfielder is, and Mellor says this summer will require him to act beyond his years yet again.

“So he’s got a massive decision to make, he’s only 19 I think he’s shown great maturity. Going to the Bundesliga in Germany, he’s played over 100 games.

“But yeah it’s a big decision for a young man to make.”
