Liverpool ensured they ended the week with a full complement of points after a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest at Anfield. Diogo Jota scored a double, plus a Mohamed Salah strike, to help the Reds to the victory. Nervy moments throughout the match were caused by Forest’s long throw-ins, but Liverpool managed to hold on for the win. The performance of Trent Alexander-Arnold was a standout, as he ran the show from his hybrid role. Ibou Konate also impressed, despite having a tussle with Taiwo Awoniyi that descended into a WWE brawl. Jota’s return has been crucial, as he has provided the match-defining goals that Liverpool have been missing. Cody Gakpo also deserves a mention for his impressive performance. Liverpool showed resilience in the face of adversity, something they would not have done earlier in the season, and this is a promising sign for the rest of the campaign. Realistically, Champions League qualification is out of reach, but securing European football of some description is still possible. Liverpool will need to put together a run of results in order to achieve this, and they will need to keep other teams accountable in order to do so.
