Jota Expresses Gratitude to Celtic Fans After Two Years of Success
Portuguese winger Jota has departed Celtic after two successful years in Glasgow, moving to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad in a reported £25m move. During his time at Celtic, Jota helped the team win five of the six domestic trophies they competed for, and he recently expressed his gratitude to the fans on Instagram.
“You guys found a way of loving me more than my previous girlfriends,” Jota said. “And I guarantee you that we were crazy in love. For what it matters, I think I’ve loved you more than them so believe me, I love you for life. No words will ever express how grateful I am for this ride. I’m such a lucky man to have lived two years of full excitement and getting to evolve as a football player and as a person.”
Jota’s Arrival at Celtic
When Jota joined Celtic in 2021, he was initially brought in on loan from Benfica by then manager Ange Postecoglou. Jota admitted he was “scared” and “had doubts” at the time, but he quickly found his feet and went on to become a key part of the team.
“I’m grateful for every rain drop in Glasgow, every trip to the Highlands and wow, those were long,” Jota said. “Celtic will definitely always have a special place in my heart and one day my biggest dream will be to just sit down with my kids and tell them about how magical and special this place is. To the players, to the staff and for all of the involved departments, a big thank you from me. You guys made me better.”
Achieving Domestic Success with Celtic
During his two years at Celtic, Jota achieved great success with the team. He was part of the squad that won the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League Cup in 2020/21 – an impressive feat known as the domestic treble.
Jota also helped Celtic win the Scottish Premiership again in 2021/22, as well as the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Challenge Cup. His impressive performances earned him a place in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year for both seasons.
A Bright Future Ahead
As Jota embarks on a new chapter in his career with Al-Ittihad, he leaves Celtic with fond memories and a wealth of experience under his belt. He will no doubt continue to impress in Saudi Arabia, and his time at Celtic will always be remembered fondly by both himself and the fans.
“Today, I become another fan,” Jota said as he bid farewell to Celtic. With his talent and determination, there is no doubt that he will continue to achieve great things in his career.
