Toronto Maple Leafs Goalie Joseph Woll Suffers Lower-Body Injury
Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Joseph Woll is set to miss some time after sustaining a lower-body injury during a game against the Ottawa Senators. Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed the injury and stated that the team will determine the extent of the injury upon their return home.
Injury Incident
During the game, Woll went to make a routine save with his glove against Senators forward Drake Batherson. However, he collapsed awkwardly on his lower body and immediately hit the ice in pain. He was assisted off the ice and did not return for the remainder of the game.
Woll had made 29 saves before leaving the game, contributing to the Leafs’ 4-3 victory. He has been a key player for the team this season, starting in 13 out of their 15 games and boasting a .915 save percentage.
Impact on the Maple Leafs
The loss of Woll, the team’s new No. 1 goalie, is a significant blow to the Maple Leafs. He has been instrumental in keeping the team competitive in games and has been considered a contender for the Calder Trophy. The sight of Woll struggling to put weight on his left leg and appearing shaken as he left the ice is concerning for the team.
This injury comes at a time when there were already concerns about the performance of backup goalie Ilya Samsonov and the team’s defensive struggles. The potential long-term absence of Woll could be a turning point in the Maple Leafs’ season.
Next Game
The Maple Leafs will host the Nashville Predators in their upcoming game on Saturday.
