Roma make loan move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja but Blues reject offer
Roma have contacted Chelsea over the possibility of taking Armando Broja on loan, but the Blues are not interested in letting the striker leave the club.
The 21-year-old has been out since the end of 2022 with a serious knee injury but is nearing the end of his rehabilitation process and could be back on the pitch next month.
Considering he has been out of action for so long and is still not fit it is slightly unusual that Roma would want him on a short-term deal, but Sky Sport report that the Italians made contact with the Blues about the possibility of taking the Albanian on loan.
Chelsea Reject Loan Move for Broja
The Serie A side have been rebuffed, though, with Chelsea keen to keep hold of Broja, especially as Christopher Nkunku has suffered a serious knee injury of his own, potentially keeping him out until December.
The young forward has also been a target for AC Milan but they will get the same response as Roma should they make a move for him.
Pochettino Short of Striker Options
New Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino is not awash with options in the central striker role, with summer signing Nicolas Jackson starting the first Premier League game of the season as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Liverpool.
Romelu Lukaku is still at the club but is expected to leave before the transfer window closes, while the other forwards available to Pochettino are either more comfortable out wide or deeper.
Jackson played the full 90 minutes against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge and looked lively but spurned one notably good chance during the contest.
Jose Mourinho’s Interest in Broja
Roma manager Jose Mourinho has already taken Tammy Abraham from Chelsea to Italy and was reportedly keen to bring another forward from the Blues to Roma. However, it appears that Chelsea are not willing to let Broja leave on loan.
Conclusion
With Nkunku out injured and Lukaku likely to leave, Chelsea are not willing to let Broja leave on loan. Jackson started against Liverpool and looked lively but spurned one notably good chance during the contest. It remains to be seen how much game time he will get this season, but it looks like he will have to make do with what he has got.
