Roma fans paid tribute to Jose Mourinho once again as their Europa Conference League triumph ended the club’s 14-year trophy drought.

Nicolo Zaniolo’s first-half strike was enough for the Serie A side to beat Feyenoord 1-0 in Tirana, and fans have showed their appreciation to the Portuguese manager, who has also won them their first European crown.

A giant mural of the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss was unveiled in the Italian capital on Thursday, Mourinho resembling a Roman emperor whilst draped in the colours of the club.

It’s not the first time Roma fans have paid used their artistic skills to pay tribute to Mourinho.

Fans of the club painted an image of ‘The Special One’ riding a Vespa scooter on a building in Rome shortly after he took over as manager of the Giallorossi last summer.

But a few weeks later and after arch-rivals Lazio had appointed Maurizio Sarri as manager, fans of the Biancocelesti vandalised the artwork and put an image of Sarri smoking into Mourinho’s face over the mural.

Following Wednesday night’s success, Mourinho quashed all rumours of an impending exit.

“Now I am staying, there are no doubts. Even if some rumours emerge, I only want to remain at Roma,” he said.

“We must understand what our owners, who are fantastic people, want to do next season, because this is history, but we can build a really strong project with honest professionals.”

The 59-year-old led the club to a fifth-place finish in Serie A in his first campaign before adding the inaugural Europa Conference League competition to his impressive CV.

Key to Mourinho’s success this term has been the form of Tammy Abraham, who joined the club last summer from Chelsea.

Abraham has been a revelation since his switch to Rome, scoring 27 times in 53 matches and has quickly becoming a fan favourite at the Stadio Olimpico.

Former Manchester United defender defender Chris Smalling has also come in for praise after his performance in Tirana.

Smalling has been superb for Roma since his move in 2019 and has earned the nickname ‘Smalldini’ in a nod to legendary Italian defender Paolo Maldini.
