Jordan Pickford reveals ‘double-bluff’ on James Maddison penalty with water bottle instructions

Date:

Jordan Pickford, the Everton goalkeeper, has revealed that he double-bluffed James Maddison before saving his penalty during the 2-2 draw between Everton and Leicester. Pickford correctly guessed Maddison’s direction after studying a picture of his water bottle, which contained a list of potential Leicester penalty-takers and instructions on their likely direction. The midfielder had a 60% success rate of hitting his spot-kicks down the middle, which is exactly where he aimed his penalty. However, Pickford jumped on his goal-line before pouncing back into the middle to claw out the penalty. The result leaves Everton in 19th place and Leicester in 16th, with only one point separating them.
