Jordan Pickford replaces Hugo Lloris, Harry Maguire joins from Manchester United and Pedro Porro strengthens defence – How Tottenham could look next season

It’s fair to say that Tottenham are going through a rough patch at the moment.

While Spurs do in fact sit fifth and two points off the Premier League top four, performances on the pitch have been far from inspiring.

Their 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on New Year’s Day has now seen them win just two of their last five matches in the top flight, and they have conceded first in their last ten outings.

With quality clearly lacking at the back, England internationals Jordan Pickford and Harry Maguire have been highlighted as potential transfer targets.

Following Hugo Lloris’ mistake for Villa’s opening goal, talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara said: “We need a replacement for Lloris.

“He’s been a great servant to the football club but he does make too many mistakes. I think eventually we are going to have to replace him.

“Jordan Pickford, absolutely. Give me Pickford now.”

Despite such a link, Everton boss Frank Lampard has insisted that Pickford is ‘very happy’ at the club.

Spurs’ last clean sheet came in October when they beat Everton 2-0 at home and defensives reinforcements are clearly needed.

They have played ten matches across all competitions since then and failed to keep their opponents at bay.

Recent World Cup winner Cristian Romero should remain and was the club’s best performer in the shocking loss to Villa, while Eric Dier is a favourite of Conte’s.

However, O’Hara has sounded out Manchester United’s Maguire as the final centre-back that Spurs need to sign to play in their back-three.

“Harry Maguire is better than what we’ve got,” said the former Spurs midfielder.

“He’s not playing at Manchester United. If a left-back is playing at centre-half and you’re not featuring, then Maguire has got to be looking at saying ‘I want out.’

“[Lisandro] Martinez is going to come back from the World Cup with Argentina, so Harry Maguire is going to go even further down the pecking order.

“Maguire has got to look to get out of there. I would have him at Tottenham, absolutely, definitely.”

The 29-year-old has featured just 11 times for United this season, with the pairing of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez being Erik ten Hag’s preferred option.

However, limited appearances at club level did not stop him from having an impressive World Cup campaign in Qatar.

If a lack of game time continues to be a trend throughout the rest of the campaign, then a departure from Old Trafford could well be on the cards.

At left wing-back, Ivan Perisic has been a solid signing for the Tottenham left flank but wonderkid Destiny Udogie is set to usurp him next year.

On the right, though, Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have not had much success, while Djed Spence remains on the fringes.

As a result, Pedro Porro has been a name linked with Spurs in recent weeks as a new option.

The 23-year-old used to be on the books at Manchester City but now plays for Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese top flight.

He only sealed a permanent move to the club last summer, but could be moved on for a profit immediately and a transfer could happen now or in the post-season.

Porro’s current side will only accept offers of around £31million, with Spurs clearly already eyeing new recruits.

Luckily for Spurs their forward line is exceptional and their first-choice front-three doesn’t even include Richarlison right now.
