Jordan Henderson’s future at Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League seems secure, as the club has no plans to sell him in January, according to reports. This comes after recent speculation that Henderson and his family were unsettled in Saudi Arabia and he was looking to return to the Premier League. Henderson made a highly controversial transfer to Al-Ettifaq last summer, joining his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard, who manages the team.
While a move back to England appears unlikely, both Ajax and Juventus have been in talks with Henderson. However, a loan move would be complicated due to Henderson’s reported weekly salary of £692,000. Both clubs are determined to sign the experienced England international, as Henderson hopes a move back to Europe will keep him in contention for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024.
Despite interest from other clubs, Al-Ettifaq has no intention of letting their star player leave. Club officials will speak to Henderson during his two-week training camp in Abu Dhabi and make it clear that they have no plans to sell him. Gerrard himself is keen to keep Henderson with the team, as they have been win-less in nine games before the winter break, putting pressure on the former Aston Villa and Rangers boss.
