Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah Not Available for Manchester United and Chelsea in January Transfer Window
Manchester United and Chelsea’s hopes of signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah in the January transfer window have been dashed, according to reports. The 27-year-old defender, who came close to leaving Leverkusen in the summer, had a release clause of £15 million in his contract, but no clubs activated it.
Tah’s Impressive Performances
Tah’s performances this season have caught the attention of several clubs, including Manchester United, Newcastle, and West Ham. With only 18 months left on his contract, the Germany international has become a sought-after player. Chelsea has also expressed interest in the experienced defender.
Leverkusen’s Stance on Tah
Despite the interest from top clubs, Leverkusen has ruled out selling Tah during the mid-season transfer window. The club is currently performing well under manager Xabi Alonso and is competing for the Bundesliga title. Tah is determined to stay at Leverkusen and try to win silverware with the club where he has spent the last eight years.
Tah is not interested in switching clubs mid-season, especially with the home Euros taking place in Germany next summer. He wants to be involved in the tournament. However, he is open to testing himself in the Premier League and will explore his options at the end of the season when he will have one year left on his contract.
Leverkusen’s Decision to Sell Tah
Leverkusen is willing to let Tah go at the end of the season, as it represents their last chance to cash in on the centre-back. The club is expected to demand around £21.5 million for his transfer.
Manchester United and Chelsea’s Defensive Concerns
Manchester United is in the market for a new centre-back due to doubts over Raphael Varane’s future, while Chelsea is aware that Thiago Silva may be playing his final season for the club. Both clubs could look to sign a new defender in January.
